In most cases, kitchen furniture can be purchased either as a complete set or as individual cabinets that can be combined as needed. Whichever option you choose, a gap is usually left at the back of all base cabinets to accommodate plumbing.

Built-in appliances and corner units are deeper, as they do not include this service gap. When viewed from above, the gap is hidden by the worktop, which fits snugly against the wall.
